DIY Cinnamon Pine Cones

One of my favorite simple pleasures is just having my apartment smell good. And I mean, open the door and get a rush of scent. I can’t normally do that with candles or plug-ins alone, if at all. That’s why my favorite thing this week is…

Cinnamon Pine Cones!

Now, my mom purchased mine at a fancy schmancy fresh food store that I love, but they were about $5 for a small bag. Obviously, if you have a little extra time and some cinnamon oil, these can be made for pretty cheap.

What You Need:
Pine Cones (any size!)
Cinnamon Oil
Cinnamon Sticks
Paint Brush
Garbage Bag(s)

First you will need to go find yourself some pine cones, or go purchase some pine cones at a craft store. If you find yours outside, you will need to bake them at 200 degrees for about an hour on a foil-covered baking sheet. This will harden sap and kill any germs/bugs/gross stuff that is on your cute little pine cone. Now get a garbage bag just large enough to hold your pine cones, as you put each cone in the bag, use the brush to smear a little cinnamon oil on. Once all pine cones are in the bag, throw some cinnamon sticks in the mix and close bag securely. Leave pine cones for 5-6 weeks, and shake bag when you can.

Now, you can decorate with these babies however you please. I have mine in a wicker basket, and even some in a Halloween pale that was meant for candles. But they are also my main piece in my bathroom right now. I got a wooden dish from Target, a spice candle from Kohl’s, and added my pine cones for the finishing touch…

Perhaps tomorrow I will share with you my cake ball making disaster. We’ll see, I’m still pretty miffed.

You will never find time for anything. If you want time you must make it.
