Coffee Wars

It’s Saturday morning and I have one thought on my little brain until about eleven and that thought is: caffeine. I normally try to make my own cup (and by cup I actually mean large thermos) of coffee to grab, mix with some creamer, and hit the road, Jack. If I don’t have coffee in hand I feel as though my day can’t move forward properly, because obviously it cannot. Without it I would likely go mental and steal a coworkers steaming cup of energy and pour it directly into my eyeballs. On mornings that seem to go awry, which is quite frequent for me, I tend to make a pitstop – even if it means nearly running late to work – just to grab a nice cup of Joe.

But the last time I hit up my local Starbucks for a grande Skinny Vanilla Latte and spent nearly five dollars I almost threw up. Five dollars is a new lip gloss or perhaps a bottle of nail polish. Five dollars is five dollars. I haven’t been back there lately. In fact, when I left I found myself cursing the Italian names for sizes, what silly way of feigning sophistication. Why can’t I just call it a damn large? No, Starbucks, I’m not really mad at you. I’m mad at all of you people who can afford to spend that much on coffee and not think twice about it. But apparently there’s plenty of those people considering there’s a Starbucks on literally every street corner around here. I’m pretty sure Starbucks is taking over the world.

So, instead of contributing to the fancy-coffee takeover I’ve been driving through America’s “favorite” fast food joint – McDonald’s. I feel much better about grabbing a large coffee for a dollar or if I’m feeling perky that morning, maybe I’ll go crazy with that extra dollar and get my (favorite) Sugar-Free Vanilla Iced Coffee. Hey, don’t poke fun, I’m trying to watch my figure.
