Coffee Wars

It’s Saturday morning and I have one thought on my little brain until about eleven and that thought is: caffeine. I normally try to make my own cup (and by cup I actually mean large thermos) of coffee to grab, mix with some creamer, and hit the road, Jack. If I don’t have coffee in hand I feel as though my day can’t move forward properly, because obviously it cannot. Without it I would likely go mental and steal a coworkers steaming cup of energy and pour it directly into my eyeballs. On mornings that seem to go awry, which is quite frequent for me, I tend to make a pitstop – even if it means nearly running late to work – just to grab a nice cup of Joe.

But the last time I hit up my local Starbucks for a grande Skinny Vanilla Latte and spent nearly five dollars I almost threw up. Five dollars is a new lip gloss or perhaps a bottle of nail polish. Five dollars is five dollars. I haven’t been back there lately. In fact, when I left I found myself cursing the Italian names for sizes, what silly way of feigning sophistication. Why can’t I just call it a damn large? No, Starbucks, I’m not really mad at you. I’m mad at all of you people who can afford to spend that much on coffee and not think twice about it. But apparently there’s plenty of those people considering there’s a Starbucks on literally every street corner around here. I’m pretty sure Starbucks is taking over the world.

So, instead of contributing to the fancy-coffee takeover I’ve been driving through America’s “favorite” fast food joint – McDonald’s. I feel much better about grabbing a large coffee for a dollar or if I’m feeling perky that morning, maybe I’ll go crazy with that extra dollar and get my (favorite) Sugar-Free Vanilla Iced Coffee. Hey, don’t poke fun, I’m trying to watch my figure.

What’s your favorite coffee concoction and where do you find yourself purchasing your morning pick-me-up?

In Canada we have a coffee shop like Starbucks but there's plenty more of it. It's called Tim Hortons and it's everywhere you go! In there, I like the hot smoothy and donuts, sandwhiches are nice too.

    Hi there!
    New follower right here.
I normally make my own coffee at home, but when I don't I go to McDonald's. I love their frappes and the iced coffees. I do think it comes down to cost for me.
    Great post!

I died laughing when you said you would pour the coffee into your eyeballs. I've felt like that some days!!

I frequent McDonalds for their coffee, sometimes in the afternoon even. I think they have great coffee and they keep adding new items to their menu.

    Have a lovely weekend!

Stopping by from Storytellers! Yeah, Starbucks can get a little out of hand. I generally stick to the couple of things I know and get them in the tall (rhymes with small!) size. I can't keep up with all their shenanigans!

I buy really horrible coffee from Au Bon Pain simply because its in my building and very convenient. And for no other reason. It's always cold and stale. Yet I still get it with soy and three sugars. Just not everyday, only when I am really dragging.

When I want to spoil myself, I get the soy chai from Starbucks, so delish! But its even better when its from a local coffee shop.

as soon as I saw this post, I knew I want going to love your blog. (: i loooove coffee and drink it all hours of the day! haha I usually make my own pot at home and take with me in the mornings..with Cinnabon creamer (it is the best!!) but if I have to stop and get some I can always count on Sheetz (a gas station- not sure if they have them where you are?) or Starbucks- skinny vanilla latte is what I get too!
I've never gotten coffee at McD's but maybe I'll have to try?

@Chloe & Natalia: I wish I were in another country to test out their coffee choices. Boo.

    @Becca: Thanks for following!

@Cori & Vic: Dunkin Donuts is my favorite as well. I wish I had one on my way to work! 😦

@Jessica: I get McDonald's coffee at all times of day too! There's no shame in that…?

@Sophia: I love the soy chais too! Mmmm!

@Jessica #2: (Too many Jessica's huh?!) I love the Cinnabon creamer too! Heaven in my mouth!

@Sasha: I would drink caramel frapps like they were water if my ass wouldn't keep getting huger from it. 😉

@Erin: I'm glad someone rants about it besides me! How come people aren't bothered by their prices nowadays? Geez!

Was just coming here to tell you about Starbucks not even coming close to the amount of Tims in Canada! I was beaten to the punch though LOL!

There are 4 on the same street on my island. And that's just one street!! But, a large tea only costs $1.85 so I don't feel too badly about indulging ❤

  11. Ugh, I feel you! We don't have Starbucks in Croatia, but I've had their coffee in Italy and Spain and I just can't say much cos I tried the cheapest coffee. I don't usually buy coffee on street cos we don't have that either ( this sound so sad – we don't have anything in our country) but I make my own in the morning or go somewhere with my boyfriend or friends. I drink black coffee with tiny amount of milk, and almost no sugar. I'm weird. I like ur post very much 🙂

@Yvonne: I have never even heard of that, but I'd be all for it coming down here and taking over if it's cheaper!

@Melody: I can't imagine my world without coffee! I like black coffee sometimes too, that's not weird at all. 🙂

@Tiffiefum: Thanks m'am! I'm glad someone agrees with me. 😉

I love this local place we have called Liquid Highway. Coffee is as good if not better than starbucks; their fancy drinks (a la frappucinos) are more inspired; and they're cheaper.

I think McDonald's coffees are way too sweet, or something. Plus about 60% of the times I've tried to order coffee there, I've been given the excuse that their machines are down, and I've had friends make the same complaint.

  15. I love chai lattes and lately have been making them at home because 1) it's easy and 2) it costs way less than driving through Starbucks 🙂

For a special treat I pair my chai latte with a slice of their pumpkin loaf–heavenly I tell ya!
